The five members of the South Bay Union School District Board of Trustees are elected at large, in public elections for four-year terms. Elections are held every two years, in even-numbered years, with three seats open one election year and two seats open the next election year. Board members do not maintain offices at the Education Center. The Board of Trustees is responsible for hiring the Superintendent, authorizing the appointment of all other staff members, authorizing curriculum development, levying tax monies and budgeting for both educational programs and operating expenses, and setting District policy. The Board delegates the execution of District policies to District administration. Board of Trustee Meetings The Board of Trustees meet one or two times per month in the evening. Closed Sessions, where topics such as personnel matters are discussed, are closed to the public. The Board Meeting Schedule can be found in the "Board Meeting Calendar" link. The Board invites all attendees who have filled out cards to speak, asking only that audience comments be limited to three minutes. The Board does not normally respond to commends from the audience, and, after attendees have spoken, the rest of the meeting is held without audience participation.
